I posted a message two years ago with the YogaGroup. I am so glad to know that the site- and more importantly- the work and connection for PWA's and yoga is just as alive today as my interests in teaching yoga for PWA's was back then. My class in Chicago is more than 4 yrs old for people with AIDS and continues because of their commitment to life in the shadow of uncertainty. My hope is that peace and fulfillment find space where there is sickness and uncertainty, That love, light, and laughter might invigorate those who come to the path of yoga. I am with the help of many others engaged in planning a large scale project on Yoga and HIV in Chicago for the summer of 2000 I would appreciate the information and support of anyone inclined to be a part of this project. Contact me at PerErez5@aol.com (12/30/99)

Hello to everyone, My name is Sheila and I am writing a research paper regarding alternative medicine, particularly yoga, for HIV/AIDS related illnesses. My question is if I may begin correspondance, via e-mail, with an individual who has practiced yoga within or outside of your group. He or she may share their likes and dislikes toward this form of therapy. I am looking forward to talking to someone. I believe that I will learn most not from journals, but from people who have experienced yoga first hand. Thank you for your time. Please e-mail soon, Sheila Cincotta (11/9/99)

Just browsing, I always like to stop when there is talk about Yoga. I beleive in it and it's results i am not very disiplined yet but when I go on a spree of doing Yoga in no time I see the benefits. I am sure I could help people with HIV in a positive way. By reading of all the good it does I wish It would be introduced in schools in the first grade I'm sure we would have children with less learning and discipline problems. Barbara (10/30/99)

Wonderful work. I know Yoga helps one attain internal harmony, so essential to overcome the malady of mind and body. It's a pity that only a minority understands this and few practice. I attend to HIV infected individuals and prescribe them physical and breathing yoga practices along with homoeopathic medicines. It takes time, but it is worth, for the benfits it provide to the individual. The results are gratifying. regards, vijay (8/28/99)

I am using this as an opportunity to tell everyone how my life has changed since practicisng Ashtanga yoga. I would recommend it to anyone !! I am hoping to become a techer one day, with a view to passing my knowledge into others. When you start yoga you concentrate on the physical postures, but it soons leads to more of an internal focus and dare I say beginning to 'finding oneself'. (8/23/99)

Very happy to find your site and learn about your program. We are an art gallery/studio for HIV positive artists and friends in the Tampa Bay area. With our Web site (we are still working on getting that better organized and exhibit more art there), we hope to expand our services and outreach nationally, even globally. We often have classes/workshops for our HIV-positive community; would love to have a Yoga teacher. I would like to put info about your organization in our newsletter, the ArtLetter, so those interested can check out your site and videos. Thanks. (6/6/99)

Other: Excellent, informative, inspirational motivating website! As a nurse I have worked both in the clinical and non-clinical setting caring for people affected by HIV. I have strong personal beliefs regarding complementary therapies and have written a brief description of some to post on our website. I will definitely be recommending your website for anyone needing more information on yoga. Keep up the fabulous work. (2/3/99)

This is a great site you have set up here, because, though I don't have AIDS/HIV I know and love so many people who do that I am always glad to see some new approach to dealing with it! Thanks for making this site! Also, are there any classes in New Orleans specifically dealing with Yoga for AIDS?

I've only been practicing yoga for four months, and, at that, through tapes (Rodney Yee and Bryan Kest). I don't know much about yoga lingo, but I think what I've been practicing is hatha yoga. Simply put, I love it. From what I've caught on the web, it seems Mr. Iyengar is the man responsible for spreading hatha yoga worldwide. Thank you. Namaste

I wanted to say that I am a firm believer in meditation. I have seen miracles happen all the time. As a nurse I have been witness to patients who were according to their doctors on thier death beds. I have seen these patients get up and walk out of the hospital. Not because of medical science but because they decided to try something new. Meditaion, and deep breathing. These are the greatest healers of the human body. I have practiced the art of Qigong for several years now. Through the art of relaxation, it is then that our bodies can heal and absorb the life sustaining oxygen that we all require, expecially for those with immune realted infections. Your page is an excellent source for people to learn about the benefits of meditation, breathing, and relaxation. I am HIV neg, but my future husband is positive, the meds that he has been taking have made him very sick, I am trying to get him to start a relaxation program, as an alternative to drug therapy, which is killing him. I think that yoga, or Qigong would be nothing but a positive and beneficial change. I will keep you informed on how David is doing after he starts with the program.

Giving a chance to people to live with dignity, strength and courage is challenging and positive. I was in Pune for Yogacharya BKS 80th birthday celebrations and i saw the photograph exhibition dispalying photos of Yoga classes being conducted for HIV positive people. His work was most touching and impressive. I also viewed a CD-ROM called Yoga for Stress which was developed under the direct guidance of Guruji (BKS Iyengar )- it has 63 Yoga sequences - including classes to boost the immune system and fatigue. It has been released and the web site for further information is www.yogacdrom.com I hope this information is useful to lovers of Yoga and people who are determined to fight aids.

No doubt Bikram yoga is the best! Great exercise, great opportunity to sweat! Only negative I've come across is that females are asked to wear leotards which I find way too warm.
